Paul Kruger, the namesake of the Silver Krugerrand Coin, was a major political and military figure in South Africa’s history. He was often regarded as a champion of the people in their fight for independence from England.

On the reverse of the coin the words “KRUGERRAND” and “FYNSILWER 1 OZ FINE SILVER R1” encircle the image of a Springbok Antelope galloping across the open plains with mountains in the distance. The year of issue for the coin is also located on the reverse.
