The engravings on this side contain Augustin Dupré cursive signature and the engraving “RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE.” The reverse features the coin’s face value surrounded by a closed oak wreath. It is encircled by the engravings “LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ.” The coin’s edge is also imprinted. It contains the Latin inscriptions DIEU * PROTEGE * LA * FRANCE. This embossed edge “DIEU * PROTEGE * LA * FRANCE” was struck until 1906, when it was replaced by “** LIBERTE * EGALITÊ * FRATERNITE” following the separation of church and state.
