Peace Dollar 1 oz Copper Round – Osborne Mint

This 1 oz copper round was minted in honor of the Peace Dollar Coin, which was circulated from 1921 – 1928 and then again, for another two years between 1934 and 1935. Struck by Osborne Mint, a privately owned American Mint, these particular copper rounds pay tribute to one of the most famous American coins.Consisting of 1 AVDP ounce of .999 pure copper, the coin features the classic image of Lady Liberty – borrowed from the Peace Dollar (originally minted at the US Mint). However, the original coin was struck using silver instead of the copper used in this round. Nevertheless, the unique glint of copper adds a new dimension to the famous artwork seen on the Peace Dollar Coin.The obverses of the round feature the artwork of Anthony De Francisci, whose rendition of Lady Liberty is believed to display the most accurate portrayal of the real-life Statue of Liberty. With her trademark “radiate” crown, and the wind ruffling several loose strands of her hair, Francisci wanted his portrayal of Liberty to be consistent with the grand figure that greets new American Citizens as they arrive at Ellis Island. In the background, he engraved the words “In God We Trust” as a message of hope to those people.
