The eagle clutches an olive branch in its right talon, symbolizing peace, and a bundle of arrows in its left, representing military strength.  Above the eagle, there is a ring of 50 stars, signifying the states of the Union. The inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” at the top and “HALF DOLLAR” at the bottom surround the design.
