These 2020 Year of the Mouse Coins are the first release of the highly anticipated Perth Mint Lunar Series III. The Lunar Series II concluded in 2019 as another massive success after the first Lunar Series was very successful as well. This is the third Year of the Mouse coin produced by the Perth Mint, with the other two coins being released in 1996 and 2008. These coins are the second largest weight for the Silver Year of the Mouse coin with the coins being comprised of 1 kilo of .9999 fine silver. While these do not have a set mintage limit, they will have a small mintage in the one kilo size.
The obverse of these silver coins features two small field mice climbing up a cornstalk and eating the corn. To their right are the words “MOUSE 2020” and the chinese symbol for mouse. The Perth mintmark is also imprinted in the bottom right of the coin.
The reverse features a new design from the previous year’s Perth Mint items. It will feature a more recent depiction of Her Majesty, with a circle around her image. Outside the circle are the words “ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA”, “1 KG 9999 AG”, & “30 DOLLARS”. The reverse also has a micro-engraved security feature that is only detectable under a magnifying glass.
